Is there any easy way to clean out old blown-in insulation from a ceiling area of a house in a remodel? We will be tearing the roof off and putting in new trusses but don’t want the insulation falling down onto the floor.

Easy? Nope.
I saw on a tv show, they vacced it up into a bag in a dust collector type deal.

When I had to do that on a fire job, I commandeered my leaf blower, used it on vacuum mode, hooked up about 30 feet of 4" flexible plastic vent pipe (The kind your not supposed to use for dryer vent) and sucked it up. Still pretty messy, but the mess was sent where it would do no harm.

That would be the way I would want to do it. You would need a lot of hose. I have a remodel coming up and will need to remove ceiling insulation.
I wonder if a insulation Co could vacuum it out for you?I don't like fiberglass insulation. Gives me the creeps.
svenny... check it out

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.

Yes, I checked with an insulation company(like Bill H sugested) when I was going to replace all wiring and plumbing in my house down in TX and they were going to do it for around $300, not real sure on the amount anymore but I thought it cheap compared to what it would take me to do it with a shop vac!

I would gladly pay $300 for that. It took two of my men a whole day to do the house we had. I would have been happier (and they would have been MUCH happier) to let them do something more productive that day.John Svenson, builder, remodeler, NE Ohio
lots of good ideas. if i can get the old insulation removed for 3 or 400 they" ll get the job.thanks
