Have some plaster cracks to patch, so checked the leftover can of paint originally used maybe eight years ago (BM Aquapearl). About a third of a gallon in there, with rust around the rim and while it doesn’t smell bad, it doesn’t quite smell like fresh paint either. After stirring twice as long as usual, looks and “feels” ok.
What do you think? I know I’m cheap, but am I nuts for even considering using it? What are the consequences of using too old paint? Doesn’t dry? Won’t last long? Anyone have any hardfast rules for when to throw it out?
Thanks.

It would be pretty easy to slap some on a scrap piece of wood or sheetrock, and see what happens. Seems to me it would still be OK, as long as it hasn't been frozen and isn't full of lumps or anything like that.
