Gang, what are your thoughts on the wisdom of using old spruce in exterior applications?  I took up some old flooring (circa 1900).  There are some nice old spruce 5″ boards that I was thinking about using for a mudsill on the exterior of the house.  Nice and dry with fairly tight graining.

I ask b/c I just bought some new 7/8 rough cut spruce for some patchwork on an old house, and the stuff is just garbage.  Didn’t know if the old stuff was used in strictly interior space, or if it held up well enough to use outside.
