I’m putting a storm/screen door on a new porch that has not been sided yet. I don’t want a ‘real’ door, so I don’t have the brickmolding. Storm door’s a Pella that screws on the inside of the jambs that I also don’tr yet have. I’m thinking of pushing the ‘jambs’ out so they will stand proud of the eventual siding for trim? TIA

Tom,
Not sure if I understand completely, but maybe you could use 2x6's for the door framing (if the walls are 2x4 construction) and install the storm to the inside of that. Then, you can install the regular door later, side and trim.
Or, if it's just a storm that you'll be putting there, can't you just install it to the inside of the jambs? If no jambs, why not get some? Or, if no brick moulding, why not get some? This is the part I don't really understand.
Maybe I helped, maybe not, but if not can you give more info?
*Let's see if I get this...(a) New construction (2x4 construction assumed)(b) No siding (yet)(c) Storm door only (outswing) with no "real" doorSo, you could use stain-grade 4-9/16 jambs with brick mold, or you could use 5-1/2 jambs standing proud of the siding... Just as Mad Dog has said. Are we missing something here?Hopefully helpful, Steve
*And then when he finally trims out his windows he'll notice that something is missing - trim for the door.Perhaps he only wants the thickness of the jamb with the siding butting up against it but if he's planing on trim later he should set the jamb properly now. Will ALL the trim work for the house be OVERLAYING the siding or will the siding be butted to the trim? That detail will determine jamb placement.

2x6 frame walls. Yes, siding (t111) will but to windows, and trim goes on top of that. I guess I just didn't see the need for jambs and brickmold. I think I'll just have the 1x6 and 2x6 framing come out to match the eventual siding (1/2+9/16) and call that the 'jamb and brickmold'. Thanks for the replies, it helped. Tom
