Options for buting wood framing material

I am about to construct a 24 x 32 stick built garage.  I live in the suburbs of Washington DC, and while I can easily source hemlock or fir locally, I’m wondering if anyone has experience buying directly from mills.  If so, I’d appreciate knowing of your experience.  Thanks

    Yep, we have mills up the wazoo here in Va. Not a lot of fir but hemlock can be found as well as poplar. There is one ( or was 10 years ago) up near Leesburg that was very reasonable for a job I had in Lovitsville, and many of my neighbors have then.
