Is it just here in Northern Michigan or is the price up everywhere?
The guys at the lumber yard said it was a supprise to them too.
Why the increase?

Nothing in this industry varies in price as much as sheet goods and especially OSB.
It is partly a function of how many plants in the country are in production at the moment. They shut down for cleaning or economic reasons temporari;ly which affects the price because of the supply/demand equation.
Hurricanes generally change the demand side of that equation. Doesn't seem like you are in that part of the country but who knows.

1/2" cdx is only a buck more they just reopened the Easton plant last week closed it to the create the demand WHAT play with the market? and they are doing the same with toilet paper.
Yeah!
Some of those closings work both ways for them. They shorten the market to drive up the price while they make the local labour force wait long enough to get hungry and agree to lower wages.
BTW can you see my job from yours? I'm facing Castine.

It's so confusing, last week I used some 1/2" CDX for toilet paper!
Experienced, but still dangerous!
Hey Hard a$$... That would be a dangerous experience.
Yeah, need at least 5/8" for safety.

Picked up a 4 x 8 of 7/16" OSB yesterday at the Home Depot and the price of $9.79 floored me - used to pay $6.25. Three months ago it was $5.70.
Well, you have a couple of factors to look at, not the least of which is that a lot of this product is imported (either finished, or as a raw material) and the US dollar took a dive WRT other currencies lately.
I guess there's no need to rehash how the lumber dispute with Canada drives up prices, everyone who wants to understand that already does..

The Unionville Woodwright
Unionville, Ontario
Just ordered about 5300 bd ft of cedar from a place in Ontario.
Bad news: Softwoods tariff tacked on 27%, shipping (CT) added about another 24%. Tariff and shipping combined was about 50% of the cost of the wood by itself.
Good News: It's still a whole lot less than I can buy the wood locally.
Ya think I should send a "Thank You" note to Georgie Bush? "Another fine mess he's gottem me into". This occurs at times in drywall too, they close some plants and jack up the price. Can't wait till they make lumber in Mexico!

You looked at any of the pine doors and trim lately, "made in Chilli"

O.K. another Republican George Bush slam.. But how do you explain that the Govenor in Calif. is a Democrate? Look what $hit he has put us in?
Migraine,
Was just jossin' about Bushie Boy! Say if a truckload of lumber goes up past a comperative truckload price of oil, do ya think we'll invade Canada?
No, not Canada. That's were I get medication for a reasonable price. Costs me around 2 1/2 times as much in Calif.
It went up here too. Midwest/Plains states
