Overlapping roof felt on shed side walls
I’m using 4×8 Hardiboard panels for the outside walls of a two story Gambrel Roof. The end walls are 16′ wide and 19′ high.
I’ve chosen to use 30lb. roofing felt between plywood sheathing and the Hardiboard sheets. My problem is attaching the 3’x16′ long sections of roofing felt on the tall second story side walls while trying to use a ladder… I’m overlapping by 16″ as this wall sees the West and North heavy weather and winds.
My question is: Can I cut the roofing felt into 3’x8′ long strips and splice the roofing felt in the center in order to hang it straight. How much overlap in the center is enough if I can splice?
Thanks for your help…

Sure you can .
Give yourself a foot or so of lap , best if you lap in the direction of your winter prevailing storm winds. (you don't want the wind blowing any possible water under the lap, it should help close the lap not open it)
But no problem end lapping.
Thanks for the help.
End Walls have exterior sheathing with aluminum radiant barrier.
Rafters on 16" centers.
I used your advice today.

Looks like a nice building from that storehouse of culled Lowes wood you managed to accumulate.:o)
Thanks Rez,
I've used just about all the reserves I gathered over the period of almost a year of collecting culled lumber from Lowes.
The 8 sheets for the second story are 1/2" OSB sheets came from Home Depot, using a 10% Off Coupon....

I used culled lumber for this creature along with fresh wood from a pallet of 4ft stick material bound for a pallet manufacturing plant.
Their truck was overloaded and the weighscales had busted them and made them make weight by removing a skid of the wood.

Sure. 8" lap is enough. More is better
