I need to build a framed base cabinet with a full overlay door below and a drawer above, so what is the correct size for the horizontal face frame rail that goes between the drawer front and the door to form the cutouts? I was designing for 1/8″ separation between the door and the drawer front, so if I figure on a 1/4″ overlap of the door and the drawer front over the cutout then that would only require the rail to be 5/8″ wide.
This seems too flimsy of a rail width; am I missing something? I typically build drawers to overlap the cutout by 1/4″, so should I just plan to make the rail 1″ or 1 1/8″ wide and have the top of the door overlap the cutout by either 5/8″ or 3/4″?
Thanks for the feedback,
Brian

cabinet stiles and rails are all the same width. the standard used to be 2", but a lot now are 1-1/2"
I've built all stiles and rails on faceframes at 1 5/8th" for as long as I can remember, unless strictly custom work.
I your example, I use a wider drawer face attached to the drawer box, for get the 1/4" overlay on the bottom of the drawer face.
Keeping all parts uniform and in line is much more important.
