I asked the lumber yard supplying my framing package to quote Advantec subfloors. Apparently they deal mainly in Weyerhauser products and countered with Truss Joist “Performance Plus Panels” (also known as “P3”). Anyone have experience with these? How do they compare to Advantec panels?

Jim,
I just switched over to Advantech this last project from plywood based on the great reviews and feedback from folks on this board. I will only use advantech from here on out.
We had continuous storms this spring and not a single edge has buldged or delaminated and the product arrives flat, stays flat and lays flat with all the t&g fitting perfectly.
I am not familiar with P3 but if it is the new name of structurewood then I have not heard a good about it. My lumber salesman will not sell it. His opinion and experience is "high dollar OSB that performs the same as cheap OSB"
One vote for advantech.

I might be very wrong here... I think I have been using this P3 sub floor material for the past few days. These sheets have a built in "weep" hole since the sheets don't drive "tight" as I'm used to. There are notches in the tongue about every 6 or 8 inches, so when the sheets are drove home there is a place for the water to escape. The tongue and grove are routed in at an angle with the grove being shallower then the tongue.
If in fact this in the same sub floor material, the only draw back is that it takes a little "touch" to figure out when to stop driving the sheet. It does not compare to advantech however. If you can only get Weyerhaeuser products, ask for the Structurwood Gold. That's pretty good stuff in my experience and isn't as heavy as Advantech!! :)Jeff"rough framing" is just an expression
I've used Advantech and like it. We usually use LP Top Notch HP. LP has 3 grades of OSB subfloor and this is the highest. IMHO it is equivalent and has weep holes in the tongues for when it does get wet. No experience with the P3 but I figured that it wouldn't be long before every manufacturer jumped on the good subfloor band wagon.
Edit: Just checked out website and I couldn't find P3 this should be the equivalent

JL,
On the link you sent it looks like the P3 panel is the one at the bottom "Performance Plus Panel". Here's a link to the brochure.

Looks OK on paper.
You are correct. I didn't know that I was supposed to assemble all the P's to get P3. ;)
On paper it looks like a good product.John
