My house has brick veneer all except for the gable ends which currently are vinyl , but apperantly in the past the gable ends were sided with painted hardboard siding. The problem is that the paint washed down over the brick leaving a whitish haze that will not come off. Have tried muriatic acid and also a chemical paint stripper. Neither one seemed to make any difference. Any ideas on what might work?

Pressure wash?

Have also tried pressure wash, although not along with the muriatic acid as I didn't want to get acid all over planting etc.

Generally, wetting the area before using acid is essentially diluting the solution. This acts as good protection from chemical burns for plants, etc. You'd want to wet the brick anyhow before the acid to keep it from burning the mortar. If this is not working for you I'd suggest you use a soft metal wire wheel. What does Conrete.com (or whatever they are) have to say?
