Jst trying to get some ideas and have something to show my wife. Would definately help if she could see some pictures of what i am considering.

I can't offer up any pictures, but how about cutting a couple of pieces of cardboard to the size of the risers, painting them the proposed color and tacking in place with double-sided tape.
If that doesn't convey the idea, I don't know what would.
That's always a possibility but honestly I'm looking for something that takes as little of my time as possible as I am completely covered up with trying to get all the cabinets built ins, custom wainscoting, stairs, bathroom vanities etc built by June.
I went to Google Images and found a few. Here's one from this site: http://www.lisaallenart.com/interiordesign.html

Thanks Splintie, not quite the style we are looking for but it helps.
Here's one. The colors look better in real life than in the picture. The treads are oak, the risers and stringers are painted. The side walls are the same green that you see at the top of the landing, but it doesn't show in the picture.
Now that is very close to what we are thinking. Thanks.
Would help to give some specifics of what the case and the area around it is like. Open rail? Lit by a window? Trim style?
Really, posting a pic of the stairs will end up having you inundated with ideas.
Cheers

If I had a pic of the stairs I'd post them but they aren't built yet. The stairs are U shaped with a landing halfway up. Still debating whether to do open or closed treads. It is lit by a window but fom very high up, 8' or so above the landing. It will likely have a craftsman style rail.
I don't have a picture but mine are painted dark green. I like the fact that it hides toe scuffs and contrasts nicely with the oak treads. What I don't like is that all the other trim in the house is white so it looks a little odd.
My next project is to redo the area with the stairs. I'm going to install green slate tiles on the risers. It will still hide scuff marks and look good with the white trim.
