Our recently painted Casement windows are sticking along the edges.
This has been an annoyance during the summer but now that colder weather is
approaching we will soon be closing and locking them down for most of the coming
months. Is there anything that can be done to insure that we will be able to
reopen them with as little problem as possible in the Spring (hopefully without
having the paint chip off).
I would also like to ask what is the recommended way to trim new doors that are
tight along the vertical edge. Is it best to attack the hinge or latch edge and
with what?

Jonathan, you might try a light coating of vaseline or something similar on the weatherstripping of your casements. Just remember when you need to repaint you will need to wash them down with a solvent like denatured alcohol or naptha to get rid of any residue left from the vaseline. As for your doors, if they are just tight at the top or the bottom I would plane them down a little at the tight spots. But if they are tight the whole length of the lock side you would probably be better off taking it off the hinge side and then deepening the hinge mortise's. You cant take too much off the latch side in the latch area because of the fixed dimension of the bolt and knob. Chuck
