I am staining my house. I shopped around for brands, price and advices. One older gentleman at the store ( I assume the owner) said that I should not stain in the month of July if I have an oak tree near the house because this is when the tree sap becomes air bourn. He said that the sap that sticks to the siding will interfere with adhesion. I am using acrylic solid stain over old based stain that was applied at least ten years ago. Although I like to get to the staining as soon as possible, I would wait if this advice will improve the life of the finish. I believe this gentleman can be trusted, but I wasn’t able to confirm this from another paint store and I have seen painters working in July. I would greatly appreciate all advices out there. Thank you.

It is possible but unlikely .....unless you have a long time frame between your surface prep and applying the stain. The sooner you apply after you prep, the better. I do have some reservations about using acrylic stain on old wood - I've never had much luck. I've had great results with new wood and acrylic stain but on old wood, I believe an oil based stain is still the way to go.
