what is a reasonable price for prime and painting of a new addition. The 3 bedrooms are average size, 12X12. The livingrorm is 30X15. The garage is 25X30 (finish coat). The bath is 5X9 and wet bar is 10X10. There are some closets and a foyer but I’m too worried about them. I was thinking $1. / Sq. Ft. so roughly 2050/$1. = $2050. Does this seem high or reasonable? Thanks

Depends.....
Where are you located?
Is this "addidtion" a fifth floor walk-up?
Prime and paint -- but what surfaces? Are we talking about new drywall, or is every room done in some sort of unique wall surface?
Did the trim guys do the puttying, or am I expected to?
$1/square foot of floor space, or $1/square foot of painting?
And finally, is this one of those McMansions, in a subdivision of McMansions, and are you the one driving that Mercedes E-class?
Oh -- and what kind of paint do you want me to use? My choice of latex? Or your spec for polyurethane?
Bottom line is that no one here on this forum can answer your question. Get two or three bids/proposals from local reputable painters. Go from there.
Unless you're the lead dog, the view just never changes.
2050 ft of floor space, sorry should've stated that....8" ceiling.....sheetrock walls......no taping.....residential , not a condo....right down the street from my house,Upstate N.Y.......I'm doing the work.....and I am using Benjamin Moore paint..

Sounds kinda light to me- around here in central NJ a good painter will get $.50-60 per SF of actual painted area (walls and ceilings), plus around $45-55 per door or window.
The best thing to do is tally up all your SF, figure out how many gallons of paint, tubes of caulk, rolls of tape, etc., you'll need, and then figure out how long it should take you. Apply your hourly/daily/weekly labor rate, add for OH&P, and sell it like that.
Forget doing $/SF pricing- you'll go broke- especially at $1/SF...

Painting is a piece of cake, it's the prep work that takes time. Hard to estimate that without seeing the place. I just paid $48.00 + for a gallon of Ben Moores Oil Satin Impervo, ouch!
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
For a $ a square foot I can get a one stop no-english paint crew. Definately no BM paint, prime walls with paint. Wam bam thankyou mam.
Hello shoemaker, that sounds very reasonable to me. Assuming all areas to be painted are accessable in a normal way I would add at least $1000.00 (that is one thousand) to your bid. I do interior and exterior painting and I am very busy and by the way I am looking for a good painter in Boulder Colorado.
Haha... Thanks for the invite maler but I'm set here...could've had a decent painter for you a little while ago but my brother in law moved back here to N.Y.. Nice out there though I spent time in Frisco two years ago.
Good Luck and thanks to all for the advice.A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...BUT, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying "Damn...that was fun"!
