Received 1 of 6 wood columns back from the stripper yesterday. They are being stripped of 60 years worth of paint by dipping in a caustic solution followed by a muriatic acid dip/wash and then plain water wash. Some of the column staves had slight (1/32) seperation on the outer surface before stripping and this didn’t change (if much) after stripping. Cost was $60 here in the Wash DC area and ALL paint was removed.
Would an epoxy product (West Systems) be the best choice to fill in the gaps that exist?
Do I need to wait a few days before applying this product?
I planned on priming one or two coats with an oil-based primer – about how long should I wait before doing this? – I wish I had a moisture meter but don’t really have a need for one after this.
Much Thanks,
Eric S.

You really want a moisture meter, especially this time of year. Can you borrow one?
I'm a little far, but if you really feel like a drive in the country....
