Redoing a 70’s kitchen. Refrigerator is avacdo (you do remember the 70’s?) 18 years old so it will get replaced. DW is also avacado but has virtually no use on it so makes sense to keep. Was not set up to accept a trim panel kit. What are the options to re-paint/finish?
I sanded and painted a fridge with enamel spray cans once and it came out pretty well. What about the refinishers who come in with electrostatic equipment?
The electric range is almond. That could be lived with in the new scheme, but if they come in to do the DW maybe the extra cost will be minimal. Any concern about refinishing the cooktop around the burners?
TIA

If you can get the door off of the dshwasher, you can take it to an auto paint shop. Not all collision repairers do furniture, but one in your area might. Use the phone and call around. You may also get a tip on a painter from an interior decorator. The paint company PPG has appliance colors that can be mixed on an automotive paint mixing system. The local supplier of PPG may also help you find a willing shop. In some areas there are contractors that paint office furniture in place.
Any appliance that has been painted can be repainted. But many appliances are porcinalized (sp). This is the typical coating on washing machine tops and oven doors. I have painted both by sanding with 80 grit but the results were poor on the washing machine tops ( scratched off very easily) and the oven door customer never came back to tell me how that worked.
Good luck,
Frank
*I've had good luck with spray can appliance paint. I painted a dishwasher front and a stovetop. Wet sand old paint until dull, put on a coat of good primer and paint away. Passed the wife's inspection. Not as hard as original finish but does get very hard. Seems like you shouldn't spend a lot of money on 18-year old appliances.....jim
*I've had really good luck with the spray appliance paint, too. Used an old fridge out in the pool room/garage for ten years, and the stuff never came off! Sanded and primed like Jim, then sprayed 3 separate THIN coats over 3 days - much neater finish, and I think it helped it last, too. I've also not primed (another fridge), and that lasted, too, with the 3 coats over 3 days finish. Sold both fridges, and they were still the colors I painted them (I actually painted onei avocado- the one for the pool room; it fit the atmosphere .Patty
