I do alot of trim work..but believe it or not,..I have never used panel moulding. All of the wainscotting I have done used plywood and cove moulding. So here I am at a job and the guy brings in this panel moulding. I couldnt figure out how to cut it true. It seems that neither edge fits snug to the saw table. I am sorta embarrased. I do crown with no problem..but this stuff stumped me. In case I need to clarify; a portion of the moulding sit down on the field and the other laps OVER the 3/4″ frame. It has a great look to it..Signed anonymous.
P.S. dont tell my clients about this.

You have to make a jig: couple of feet of ply about 4" wide; glue a strip of your paneling on the face (make sure it has a straight edge); a toggle clamp or two is a nice touch; the molding rides on the jig in exacly the same posture as it will be installed; the jig rides on your sliding table, panel sled, or mitre guage; or, will hold the molding for accurate cuts in a mitre saw.
*Sorry, you have to make one jig for straight and second reversable jig with a 45º at each end - it will all be obvious as soon as you start.
*cuta- what I do is take a piece of stock thicker than your ply(or whatever you are putting the panel mold up against)and fix it at the base of my chop saw, making sure the verticle(sp) face towards you is square to the base of saw. Set your panel mold with the lip of the molding on top of piece of wood on saw, with vert. face of molding tight against piece on saw. Then just cutawooda! If you measure tight the miters will hold verticle faces against themselves.
*If I understand the situation right, I just take a scrap of 3/4 stock to lay it on and feed it to the saw, holding both together up against the backstop snagly.Scrap keeps gettin shorter.
