anyone familiar with Gary Striegler’s Paneled passageway from FHB June/July 2007? Has anybody tried this? I read through his description, and have one question pertaining to his milling down of the head jamb.
I think he is saying that if you take a pre-hung door, and mill down the side jambs to 2″ (to be later joined to a 2.5″stile, and rip 3/4″off the head casing (apparently to be replaced by a 3/4 panel later), that everything will work out.
Here is the rub: if a normal jamb is 4 9/16 wide and you remove 3/4″ of material, How could that jamb possibly extend to cover the normal 4 9/16″ of wood and 2 sides of drywall? I don’t see the need to remove that 3/4″ in the first place.
I have been working it out on paper, and can’t see how this is possible. I know that he is right, becuase you can see from the article that it worked, and he is the champ.
If anyone is familiar this application I could really use some help.

Few people understand it. Nobody agrees what it is, how to learn about it, or who's responsible for it. It has never been more important
