I tried googling but did not really get what I was looking for.
Can someone give me a clear run down on PAR vs BR type lamps and why one should be used over the other?
I know what PAR and BR stand for, but the only difference I can tell when handling them is that the PAR seem much heavier duty. Further, when I put BR in my 6″ IC cans, they don’t look very good . . . .
Thanks in advance for any help.

There is a difference in how and where the filament is mounted in the two styles. I can't remember the details.
But the PAR bulbs the filament is installed so that it is at the proper focal point for the parabolic reflector.
BR bulbs are less controlled on the optics.

Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Thanks, Bill,
I bought a couple PAR at HD and will try them in our cans. If I like the results, I'll order more online. $7.50 per lamp is steep (75W PAR30). I am finding near half of that online.
It also looks to me like the reflector set up in the PAR is superior to the BR in that it will help minimize radiant heat inside the IC can.
I bought the BR originally because they came in a case of 12 and we have 12 IC cans through out the house. I really tried to avoid them where possible, but some areas just weren't a fit for flushmount fixtures.
