Parquet de Versailles installation
Dear list,
I am working up the nerve and knowledge to fabricate and install a parquet de Versailles floor in a 19 ft by 30 ft living room. I have the frame and panel detailes worked out to create the 1 meter square units out of oak. This is a great use for odd cutoffs. But…
The question is: How are the panels installed over a standard I-joist and plywood subfloor? Loose and floating over a cushion like Pergo-style laminate floor? Nailed only around the perimeter? Liquid nails everywhere? An inch of loose sand?
Will the individual pieces of these panels click, tap, and squeak under foot if not glued down?
I hope someone out there has actually installed this type of floor and is willing to share.
Thanks,
Greg Graham

Here's a picket pattern similar to what you are doing.

This was glued to a ply sub-floor -- no nails. I would suggest that you use Bostik's Best polyurethane glue because this remains flexible and can cope with expansion movement.
An alternative way is to assemble the panels on a 1/2" ply back board then glue the panels to the floor, but that is unnecessarily cumbersome, IMO.

Greg,
I second Ian's recommendation to use Bostik's Best. Without a doubt it's the best solution to the job you have.
Would you mind following up your initial post with pictures? It'd be nice to follow your project as it progresses.
