HO had floor furnace in 1950 house replaced with FAU. Now she wants the 14″x27″ holes in the floors on both sides of the wall repaired. One side the T&G runs the long way of the hole, the other it runs the short way.
Assuming I can find suitable oak T&G, what techniques have you guys found to make the best-looking repair?

If you can't make a patch disappear, celebrate it.
Sunburst? Inlaid American eagle? Family coat of arms? Or just a dissimilar material that's harmonious.
PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
What VA said rings true unless you have access to the same flooring from somewhere in the neighborhood or close enough and willing to sand the whole room to blend.
A quick fix is just to place four flooring pieces like a picture frame around the perimeter of the hole and fill in with flooring running the same direction as the rest of the floor.
Peach full,
easy feelin'.
