The DW and I are kicking around ideas for a patio that will be part covered and part uncovered. We have discussed limestone and slate flooring. I am afraid that the slate will not hold up to the elements in the exposed areas. I tend to have a preference for stamped concrete.
Has anyone had any experience with these products? What would you recommend?

where are you? Phoenix, Chicago? it makes a difference as to the answer(s). :) (hint - fill out your profile)
I have slate on my front porch (over concrete), Holding up well so far.
But this is Dallas area. Freeze thaw cycle is more thaw than freeze.
What kind of elements are well talking about? Take a minute to fill in your profile we know what climate we're dealing with.
To my experience slate does well when installed properly and maintained, which basically means sealing it every couple of years. Of course, concrete is way more durable
EDIT: Man, I gotta start typing faster.

Ok, I have updated as requested. Tennessee. Our winters are not severe as in the NE, but I can remember it getting down to -25 one year about 20 years ago. We do have hard freezes most every year. I was mostly concerned if slate had a tendency to "flake" if exposed to much freeze/thaw.
there is good solid slate and slate that is practically rotten rock. Which kind is available in your area? I have seen a few dozen slate exposed patios and never one with the slate coming apart even after a hundred years. But slate is slippery when wet. I prefer to see small pieces so the seams act as gripstops to prevent a fall.Whether you use slate or limestone, make a good base with drainage and compacted well to prevent settling and heaving from frost.

Price wise I'd prefer Stamped concrete. A price for stamped concrete might be $10 a sq ft whereas a stone surface might be $15 to $20 a sq ft. That $5 or $10 a sq ft will add up quickly.
Stamped concrete isn't maintenance free though. It needs to be resealed every few years. The sealer I use is around $50 a gallon...
Stone gives a much nicer look though - IMO. Part of the problem though is finding someone who will do the stone properly so - as you say - it will hold up to the elements.
Something that seems to allude some people here - it might also depend on the value of your property. If you live in a mobile home neighborhood even the stamped concrete might be overbuilding. Not meaning to hurt anyone's feelings here. Just stating the facts.
"It needs to be resealed every few years. "in frost climates, every year

Good point.
What do you have to say about sealing stone patios?
The limestone is porous. I'd seal it.Slate has oil in it already so if it is good stuff, leave it be.
