I need to paint the gable end of a 3story house that has a rather large(23ft. along the gable end by 14ft.deep) 4seasons brand sun room. This is the aluminum ribbed type with insulated glass. I can stand on the ribs, at least along the edge, but I need to be able to put a ladder up to get to the peak. The sun room is too deep to just put a ladder over it from the ground. I could put a 2x plank down to spread the weight but I don’t know how to stabilize the plank since the roof is at an incline. I could screw the plank to the house with more 2x’s but I wanted to see if anyone else had any ideas about how to do this so that I could avoid the screw holes. I could rent pump jacks but was hoping for a more parsimonious solution. Thanks.

Could you get a bucket lift in there? Thinking the trailer mounted type.
Could you post a photo or two (in Email size, 640X800 or thereabouts)?? You'll get mo' better answers if you do.
just did this same deal.
i rented a bucket lift/trailer. 50 ' it was even self propelled.check around only 1 place had the genie brand with the self propelled. cost 150 for the weekend. best 150 i ever spent. i did probably 600.00 worth of tree trimming.

I worked for 25 plus years in mental health centers. Takes a few fancy words to get in, and a few fancy words to get out.
I have always appreciated your feedback Piffin.
Tie a rope to your feet and tie the other end to the car. Hang over the side and have your wife drive back and forth to make paint strokes. Be sure to take your cell phone with you so you can tell her when to reverse direction.
(In a more practical vein:)
How tall is the sun room, and what is the slope of its roof? You could potentially put planks across the roof and brace them from the ground with long timbers running at an angle to be parallel with the roof. (2x4 might be a little too flimsy -- probably 2 2x4s nailed together.) But this would only work if the roof slope is moderately steep.
Failing that, you might be able to cable the planks to the house somehow -- there may be anchorages for the cables that would be less invasive than screwing wood to the house.
Another option is to neatly drill/tap holes into the ribs to hold the planks, then fill them with stub bolts and caulk when you're finished. You'd have to be careful to not hit a glass edge while drilling, of course, and you could only do this if the ribs were were wide enough to not be weakened by the hole.
