In my house the hot water pressure seems to drop to a trickle every once in a while. The drop is not related to the water being used elsewhere. It seems to happen at the sink facets, while as the showers don’t seem to be affected. Cold water pressure is always fine. Hot water heater is only 5 year sold. Piping is all copper and mostly 3/4 to each room, then 1/2 to each fixture. What type of “blockage” could occur only once ibn a while?

had this problem once, I'm guessing that somewhere in the system there's a valve washer that wasn't screwed tight to the stem and it occassionally gets stuck to the valve seat. The hot water one is the usual culprit since the heat causes it to expand/contract.
Seems unlikely that all my faucets (kitchen and 2 baths) have bad valve washers. But I will check.
Well, most water heaters i've seen have a valve right on the output of the unit.
Perhaps you should start looking there.
"Well, most water heaters i've seen have a valve right on the output of the unit."They are on the input side. But same affect.
Yep, I guess that would make it easier to replace the heater when it lunches. Still could be the culprit though.
Long shot...but do you have an on-demand hot water heater?
Its a standard hot water heater.
