Hi,
I was curious about using PEX in a crawl space. Anybody have any trouble with rodent gnawing through PEX tubing?

No problems yet, but I'm hoping there are no rodents in there to chew it anyway.
Had call to fix a pvc water line this summer on a hog farm. This paticular farm was were we installed hepex floors for baby pigs at least 6 years ago. Of the three barns we done no critter damage so far. Heres hoping it has bad smell to them.
Now I know what to spread in the crawl space.
will you be selling or renting the resperators to the home owners..
will they get a service contract with those..

Hi
I'm in Washington state, and my plumber told me about a new construction job they did where the rats had chewed through some of the PEX in the upper floor, (after drywall was installed). Hilarity ensued.
They and I are reconsidering PEX, esp. in crawlspaces, which is otherwise one of the best places for it.
Off topic, but I just paid $300 to have some wiring harnesses replaced in one of my vehicles. A rat climbed up in the engine compartment to stay warm during a cold spell and chewed the sh1t out of the wiring.
I had exactly that also!
My truck go's every day, never sits more than 12-14 hrs. Got out 1 day bout 2 months ago & heard the fuel pump still running...?, then the next rainy day , the computer screen was telling me alll these strange messages, & the controls for the heat-defroster wouldn't work.
I had made an apointment with the dealer to figgure out wht possed this baby, but cancelled when 1 of my guys looked under the hood and noticed insulation missing from the firewall and a bunch of loose insulation in the black box with all the relays, etc. in my silverado.
After further investigation, mice had made a nest in there, chewing off the insulation on the harness, shorting out everthing. 20 minutes & a roll of black tape fixed everything.
I have heard the trick is to leave Bounce dryer sheets anywhere the mice might want to nest- or urinal mints work also, but I'm to much of a pris to pick em out.
My mechanic advised getting an old sock, putting a couple of mothballs in it, and hanging it in the engine compartment. I once used mothballs and ammonia to stink a raccoon out of a crawl space.
Rodents with access to PEX or PVC will probably also have access to, and enjoy gnawing on, your crawlspace romex.
The objective is to make the utilities inaccessable, which also means plugging the borings where your utilities pass through.....amazing how little room critters require....and they love to nest and have babies and deficate and urinate in your insulation.
