I have to replace my main supply line- currently 1″ galvanized. Is PEX or similar plastic pipe commonly used for this now?
Thanks

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

Check first with your local water company, some companies have a type of pipe that they require.

I just had my main replaced a year ago, old galvanized pipe, replaced it with some sort of "plastic" pipe, dont think it was PEX but it wasn't copper or metal.
I didn't do the actual work but the answer to your question is Yes, they do use some sort of plastic now for mains, I'm sure your area has some standards that they adhere to so you should check around.

PE, polyethalene tubing is used and cheap.
PE is not approved for interior use so it needs to be terminated immeditately inside.
But I understand that PEX is approved for direct burial also.
.
A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
In my county we can use it on the house side of the meter..I'm not sure about the street side (I'm not a plumber).
You get out of life what you put into it......minus taxes.
