IPT - iron pipe thread.MPT - male (iron) pipe thread.FPT - female (iron) pipe thread.I belive that there is another one NPS - national pipe standard or something like that.That all refer to the common pipe thread that is tapered cut. Used for all threaded fittings (whether iron pipe, brass, plastic).But compression fit and flared fittings use a different type of thread.
Sorry for the jargon. Bill's right. Most PEX manufacturers make fittings for this purpose, and generic PEX fittings will also work. PEX is made to the same ASTM outside diameter as copper pipe, and although there may be warranty concerns, I've found that a compression fitting that works with copper also works with PEX.Andy

If you use a compression fitting be sure to use the tube stiffner insert to keep the pex from collapsing.
