hello all…I have two open air decks that sit directly in line with each other and want to use the bottom for outdoor dining. My concerns are dirt from the above deck as well as water as the top is not roofed. I need to determine if there is a crafty way to solve this issue as it is my intent to purchase this building to use as a restaurant but use the upstairs for my own home….any suggestions? thanks

I usually don't say things like this on the FHB forum, but I once saw a rather unique product being used on one of those home-imoprovement shows on HGTV. It was designed specifically for applications like yours.
I don't have a name or a link. But I'll be that if you talked really nicely to a sheet-metal contractor that you could get something just as good.
The product basically turned each joist bay into a collection tray; and each joist was surrounded by a gap and some material that turned it into a gutter. All of the joist/gutters sloped to one end, where a larger gutter collected it all and sent it to a downspout.
Although this would solve your immediate question, there are two things you would want to consider. Systems like that seem like they would be very difficult to clean out, sence there is no easy entry point. And the wood in the deck probably would not last as long, since there is less air circulation to dry it out.
Unless you're the lead dog, the view just never changes.
