Here in maryland many homes are row homes with brick walls. Some have dry wall with furring strips over brick inside and some just versions of some skim coat plaster mix over brick surface. I have done both and also a durabond 20 or 45 mix to cover walls. But in Kitchens when one must hang wall cabinets, or bathroom wall/medicine cabinets, I am still searching for the perfect solution. Any bright ideas? Let me know your mixes, I would appreciate the input.
Thanks

I would suggest the sheetrock method with ####fir strip tightly anchored onto the brick where you are going to screw your cabinets into. A hanging strip.
If you want to plaster the brick, just do it the traditional way with a base coat of perlite plaster (Structolite) troweled flat, and then a white coat of veneer plaster. If you hang cabs onto plaster though you need to use the proper anchors like lead, or the blue ugly cement screw. I wasn't around for the Piffin screw thing so I can't advise you on that.
Plaster's a better wall in many ways and I prefer the way it looks, but sheetrock's much easier and is just fine for the job.
