I am sure I’ve seen them advertised but I can’t find them. Plastic or composite columns that fit around existing (boring) 4″x4″ wooden columns that support a porch. Does anyone know where I can find such a product?

the big boxes carry them..
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Just installed some this weekend. The big box stores do have them (as do most lumber yards). Their interior dimensions differ from brand to brand but I think most of the 8" round columns can support a 4x4. Most of the ones I've seen are load bearing themselves but for funsies, we put 4x4's through the center as you mention. You can also get split columns if your posts are already in place and you don't feel like setting temporary posts to pull them out and fit with the columns.

Thanks for the tip. The first web address you gave me seems to have the product I need in wood only. That is I need one that will wrap around existing columns . . . I didn't notice any that are poly. That could be because I am inept at navigating around web sites. Been out of touch for a while. The second web site you listed doesn't work. Could it be misspelled? If you could direct me a little further I'd be forever in your debt . . . well maybe for the next week or so anyway. Thanks plenty.
There is a company called Outwater Plastics that carries all kinds of plastic and wood architectural ornaments. Dont know the web address but it should be easy to find.
Whoops. http://www.hbgcolumns.com. Sorry about that.
Here's a couple websites to check out. I have no experience with any of these. They're just the result of a quick google search.
