We need some interrior doors made- we want single panel doors with the panel being ‘frosted’ plexiglass (polycarbonate/acrylic?). I had a door maker tell me that an inspector would never pass this, as it must be tempered glass.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I'm not sure why it would have to be tempered glass. tempered, yes, but not sure why plastic wouldn't be allowed - it's not going to fracture and make shards.
Two jobs lately I've done this for bathroom doors - cutting out raised panels and putting in "etched' tempered panes - pricey, but a real client-pleaser.

These doors passed an inspection in Austin, TX.
The "glass" that you see is a double layered plexiglass, sorta like, or actually just like you'd see in those DIY green houses.
I made a call to the building dept to make sure that what I was making would be OK and they said it would work for them. NO problemos.

Thanks- I think the door maker was full of S**t. These are just for interior closet doors.
YOu could try giving a call to your local building dept and running it by them just for shids and giggles.
I really dont see why it wouldnt be allowed though.
