this laser is discontinued by PLS, the reason being that it will not work with a detector. spend a little more $ at coastal, $180, and get the current model
I went with the PLS2 plain. The e version at coastal was $189 and $10 for shipping. I think they have pretty good prices but they seem high on the shipping, I live in MA right next to CT and the shipping is never what I think it would be.
I'm like Buck, I'm going to use in for interiors only, so spending an extra $50 isn't worth it. The sensor has to be at least $50, probably more, so I know I'll never get it. I was going to see what they had at the JLC next week but then again figured that if they had deals it would be the same as the $150.
The price is back up to $300 again. Thanks for the info about it being discontinued, had me thinking but..
Buy both and t hen you qualify for the $75 off.Or buy something else that list for $150, but only pay an additonal 75.
Amazon doesn't sell the PLS2e alone, they only have it with the sensor, wall bracket, etc. The PS2e with the sensor is almost $400 from coastal, and nearly $500 from Amazon. With the price difference at coastal, $379 with the sensor and $189 without, buying the PLS2e so I have the option of the sensor down the line isn't anything I would be interested in. The sensor alone would be around $200, more than I would have paid for the laser and it's not really meant to be an outside laser.
I checked amazon's price this morning and the PLS2 was back up to $300. Last week it was $300, then went to $199 for a few days, then up to $300, then $150 and now back at $300. I don't know who sets their pricing but they have attention deficeit disorder.
I just bought the PLS2e w/detector for ~$325 at toolmart. I'd thought about only the laser, but there's that once in a while "outdoor" application that will make it worthwhile.
wow ... might be worth it for a "back up"!

I have the PLS2, and we used it almost every day we were trimming out the inside. We also used it to set all windows and doors, and to frame all soffits and beam boxdowns.
But if it is only $10 less than the PLS2e (which must be the less-detector price), I would opt for the 2e. You can always add the detector later, for working outside or over a long distance.
I use my "2" strictly indoors.
doubt I'd have a need for outside.
either way ... both are a steal.
I was thrilled when I got mine for $220.
