Not sure about a membrane but there is a fluid that lets water pass through it & it stays there.
they use it for waterless urinals.

Are you talking about an insert for places like floor drains. It is not a membrane, but more like a funnel that closes up, but opens will when filled with water.
The function is to trap sewer gass, but not need a water filled trap that can evaporate.
Is that what you are talking about?
Thanks for the reply on my membrane question!!Do you have the name of this funnel type check valve or where I can purchase one??

Ask, and ye shall receive. You're looking for a TrapGuard. I have three and they're a godsend. Even approved in MA, and if I'd known about them before ISH NA, I would have a basement with floor drains (sigh).

Do ya know if a TrapGuard would work as a retrofit in a trap that was already plumbed with trap primers? The primers aren't hooked up yet, we're still in rough-in stages, but the concrete is poured. I'd rather have a passive system than actively pouring water in each trap when a faucet is turned on.
No idea, sorry. I guess it would depend on how far the trap primer plumbing reaches into the stack, I suppose. I'd call the manufacturer, I am sure this is not the first time they've heard of a problem like this.
