Is there any reason the fill and vent plumbing for a heating oil tank can’t be copper? I realize that the larger size cooper will be considerably more costly than the equivalent in galvanized, but it would sure be a lot easier. PS; assume the tank is empty when being plumbed……..

I would guess that copper is considered too damage-prone. I know that the inspectors required a diesel oil pipe in our plant to be upgraded from copper to TIG-welded steel.
It may work, but if you ever need to repair it after its been in service, who you gonna get to sweat the pipe?
