I am doing some renovation work for a very large Government building in Maryland. I am a small part of a massive project. In addition to the construction work that I already have secured by contract, they have asked for a quote to do some additional plumbing work.
My regular plumber will not be back in town until 08/08/09. My bid is due in on Monday 08/03/09. Getting pricing from my regular plumber will not be an option.
The extra plumbing work will be a nice size change order. I would like to do this extra plumbing work but I am unsure how to price it competitively. I feel that I am a strong candidate to do this work since I am already in the building working, and the dead line to finish the entire building is 09/15/09 and the main contractors are under a lot of pressure to finish all of the work in the entire building by their deadline.
I am hoping that someone might have some of experience in pricing the installation of the following plumbing fixtures.
All of the plumbing fixtures, valves, supply tubes, traps etc. are supplied by the building facility. They are already on site ready for installation.
The pricing is for (Labor Only) to install the following plumbing fixtures
All of the bathrooms are completely finished and there is no additional work to be done to the bathrooms except replacing the fixtures.
The building is unoccupied so there will be no problem shutting down the water riser to the bathrooms.
Toilets – Labor price to replace 60 wall mounted toilets. The new wall mounted toilets will have the same bolting pattern as the old toilets. The new duel flush Sloan valves will be able to be installed without changing the location of the water inlet. The control stop will be replaced as well.
Urinals – Labor price to replace 12 standard urinals with Water Free Urinals. Cap of the existing water supply line in the wall. There will be no wall patching since the new urinals will cover the foot print of the old urinals.
Bathroom sink faucets and drains – I have already installed new solid surface countertops in all of the bathrooms. The counter tops are open underneath. There are no cabinets the the way. The holes for the faucets and soap dispensers have already been drilled. Labor price to install 56 (8″ spread) sink faucets. Hook up 56 drain assemblies. wrap insulation on the drain assemblies. Replace 112 water shut off valves and supply tubes. Install 56 soap dispensers.
I will be grateful for any input on this project. Thanks

I assume you know that gov't contracts usually require you to pay prevailing (union) rates.

It sounds like you want your regular plumber to do this job. But he's not available to price it. What if you are lower than his price (the one he tells you is needed to do the job)? What are you going to do then? What if he is booked up and can't get to your job in time to finish by the deadline?
My brother is my plumber and has been for 20 years. I am pretty confident that his company has the time and man power to tackle the project it the time period allowed.
Price is the other issue. If I have to price the project without his input I will price the project higher than what I think it would cost based on passed experiences working with him on many past jobs with him. Definitely don't want to be too low, but if i add too much above what I think it will cost I could get out bid.
The only positive is I might not have any competetors.
I just ran your project by my plumber and believe it or not he gave a quick price of $33000.00 I think that's based on lots of unknowns.
Thanks just did a 14 hour day and need to crash, but would like to give him more details if he is interested in giving more feed back
Thanks
Real quick budget, 500 hours at 65 per. 32,500.
Who is responsible for the toilets if they break while being bolted on? Are the old ones already gone? Are the studs and caps still there? Proper seals?
What shape are the brackets in. It's the type of job that can go down the toilet, so to speak, real quick.
35,000 might be closer.
