I am doing a high end basement remodel under the gun. The project started with demolition on Monday; 28 days before our design team expects me to hand over the finished product. In redefining the space, I am required to relocate a steel column. We had an engineer spec the beam reinforcement requirements based the new span. After some forensic plumbing, our plumber told me that the new post location is directly above an existing DWV. The plumbing is one foot below the bottom of the footing. Our steel has been cut, inspections are scheduled. Has anyone encountered this problem, and what possible solutions have you had presented to you?

Well, what's possible and what are the limitaions?
Move the pipe? Move the post? Have the engineer design a footing that bears below the pipe and bridges over it?
I might try moving the post a few inches and pouring a footing below the pipe.

Check with soil engineer re settling/bearing.
Excavate 12" below the DWV, with twice+ the area originally planned. Compact well. Wrap the DWV with 4" thick bubblewrap extending outside the pour. Lotsa iron.
