Might seem like a lame question, but I’m in the market for a new airhose for my nail guns. Too many guns to convert over to a paslode. So, I have to keep moving forward with what I have.
So, with that, any suggestions on a replacement air hose. Looking for something about 25 to 50 feet.
Thanks,
Barney

I have Flexeels but they still have some memory- still have to lay them out so they are flat, then they start squirreling up again eventually. I'm really not as happy as I would like to be with 'em. I'm wondering about the Ridgid hose at Home Despot. Seemed to be quite supple- maybe THIS one is the true Holy Grail of lay-flat air hoses. Still searching...............
sorry...

Topring makes a line, I think it is Topmax or Topmaxx....yellow, super light, super flexible, really simple and good system for mounting fittings. Everyone who uses it is cobverted. I buy 100 footers and fittings, and make up whatever I need. Even using a 4' or 5' whip on the end of a rubber line makes a big difference.

IMERC,The Ridgid hose is the same as the old, super soft grey Senco hose. Good stuff.I'm not a big flexeel fan either.- KitTechnique is proof of your seriousness. - Wallace Stevens
I like my flexeels...
and I really truely do not care for HD at all....

I don't like it either. When I lived in Vegas, it was the only place within 30 minutes. Rrrr.Good hose though ;)- KitTechnique is proof of your seriousness. - Wallace Stevens
maybe it's a good hose...
but the company that offers it leaves a lot to be desired...

If it really is the Senco hose, just re-branded, hold your nose & do the Depot thing. It's the best hose going, IMHO. I even have it in two different sizes.....
I paid a fair amount of bucks for my flexeel few years ago. Bought it 'cuz I was blown away at the time at how light it was. Have to say it's sat in my a garage with very little use, while I continue to pull out my rubber hoses.
the way it coiled drove me nuts. View Image View Image
ya just gotta be smarter than an air hose....

I like the Ridgid from HD. I'm not to keen about shopping there, I like my money to stay with the local businesses and in the country and not get send off to China. But I haven't found a better hose yet...Martin
I have 2 ridgids and they're great. Very loose even when it's cold or they've been coiled for months. The 16" marks on it are handy too when running base.

Thanks, I didn't even think of them. I was looking at the Bostich and Campbell. I'll have to drive by during lunch today and see the rigid.
ThanksBarney
i dont know who makes my hose but is a super soft rubber hose. never coils up funny or needs unwinding while in use. if i can figure out where i bought it i will let you know. i dont care for those flexeel either. the rubber one stays just as flexible when its cold or hot out, and dosent kink either.
im sure they are made by many companies so try looking for one. its yellow if that helps. not translucent.
i just checked my green line catalogue (greenlinehose.com) and it may be a poly air type.

cheers. Ill buy.
I current have two, one was given to me that a long time ago and its only about 25 feet. The other I bought at HD prior to Rigid. This is about 50 feet claims to be easy to use and very flexible. Well, its not.
ThanksBarney
Grey ridgid from Home Depot. You get out of life what you put into it......minus taxes.

Barney,
I've got 2 of the soft grey Ridged hoses and roll them up on those orange plastic cord reels. They come off nice and flat on the coldest days. I was worried that they were so soft they would get cut, but no problems after 2 years.
Paul
Hey there. Just bought one at lunch today. Used my Lowes 10% of coupon at HD. Gotta love the competitor match.
Definately softer than the other 2 hose I have.
ThanksBarney
Barney,
Are you saying that HD will acept Lowes coupons, ie: a $10.00 off coupon that I just got in the mail??????
If that true I think that I'll use mine to pick up an addl hose too!!
Are you saying that HD will acept Lowes coupons, ie: a $10.00 off coupon that I just got in the mail??????
Yes, many stores accept competitor's coupons. I've frequently used Lowes coupons at Home Depot. If they were smart, they would stop sending them if they kept track and realized that they weren't being used at their own store, but I doubt if they do this.
Great! Off I go to HD this weekend, new air hose time, have the roof to do this summer.
"we can do it, you can help!"
Hey there. That's exactly what I'm saying. They both match each others coupons. There is actually a link on the lowes home page that you can sign up to get a 10% off coupon emailed to you.
I do it all the time. When I get it I make about 10 copies. It can only be used once at Lowes, but unlimited with the copies at HD until it expires.
ThanksBarney
Does it apply to the hotdogs out front????
Love it, gota do it.
thanks for the tip!
I have a HD across the street from a Lowes 6 miles away and talks of a Menards being built even closer. I'll play the coupon game!
Your's has hot dogs? Man I'm getting ripped off at mine.
Here is the link: http://www.lowesmoving.com/savings/default.asp?catID=14
You have to sign up for the coupon. What I do is set up a pseudo email account at gmail. Then go to the web site and fill out the lowes information. It can take a couple of days. You can't use the same email address over again, so come up with something creative.
When they email it to you, you can print it on your computer.
Like I said, I've been very fortunate and saved a ton of money on various projects. I've seen guys selling these coupons on ebay and such. I think the maximum value you can save is $500.
Enjoy.Barney
Cameraman,Where are they talking about putting a Menards by you? I heard they were putting a Menards in Hartland at the intersection of 23 and 59.
I have thought for years that it would be a great spot...probably 10miles from the nearest Lowes/Depot in any direction.gk
I live in Davison, under construction @ I-69 & Irish Rd exit, 1 mile west of the davison/Clarkston exit, is a Meijer's Thrifty takers. In that that area is what I have heard. New at the I-75/Clio exit, north of Flint, is a Menard's, also.
5-6 miles west of Davison is the Lowes/HD stores.
I have heard this about a year ago and then I had a client come in my business that works in enginnering at Consumer's Energy and she said inquires came across her desk regarding utilities & easements for plans of a Mennards. Just inquires and planning, nothing set for sure yet.
Last year @ the Davison/I-69 exit was build a Applebee's Restraunt.
Davison is also the world headquaters for Fernco, Genova, and Williams Gun Sight
Dreamcatcher,
Your in Byron, that's west of the lakes area, Linden/Fenton area, correct?
Whats happening in your area? Within the last year a UBC & James lumber both shut down. UBS came in one day ushered the store manger off the property and shut her down, un announced. The UBC was a Wickes Lumber a few years ago.
I am a portrait photographer, business is really down.
I had a client last year that was an electician, he came in to pay for his daughters senior portrait. He said he was heading to Calf. to find work. I asked when are you going?, Just as soon as I write this check! His truck was out front with a trailer loaded up, he wasn't kidding. I was the last person in Michigan that he spoke to!
Add from Lowes in today's paper says 15% off all power tools 3/27/08 - 4/3/08.
I am in Byron, exactly where you thought. Work is non-existant in this area. I used to find most of my work in Grand Blanc, Fenton, Howell and Brighton. Not any more. But there are still plenty of rich folks in the suburbs of Detroit who need carpenters. I have a project now in Birmingham and another way down in Eastern Market district. The lumberyards around here have mostly disappeared to. The latest closing was Linden Lumber. Also Stock Lumber has closed many. I actually just finished the kitchen showroom at Stock Lumber in Commerce Twp. during which we gutted the Howell store to transplant some displays. Most of the employees I dealt with at the Commerce store are now fired, layed off, or relocated. The nearest lumberyard now is Kerton Lumber in Holly. I have known several contractors to move out. Some went to N.Florida, others to N. Carolina, Mississippi, and Louisiana but most went to Wyoming or Nevada (Las Vegas). Not that I like others moving out but still I just figure the more contractors that leave gives me a better chance of getting work.gk
Within a 2-4 mile radius we have proby 8 or more sub divisons started. all the underground and roads in with just a couple of spec house on each. We have 0ne high end sub going in, I still see a crew working.
Phoptography has dropped to gross figures that I did back 80's, 33 yrs in business mean nothing.
We have more house wifes doing photography out of their garage/basement than you can shake a stick at. Hard to compete, people don't look at the quality in time like now, just the price.
Just like carpentry I imagine. Quality does sell no matter what you do, it's just a little harder now.
Spring around the corner, see ya
Our local Costco has a knockoff of the flex ell variety - 50 ft for about $13.
I bought three of them and so far, so good. You can buy three of these for one FE hose (which I also own, plus a Ridgid)
My old vinyl hoses got to come out on this 500' roof. As the only power is in the center, we are pumping air 250' in each direction. The last hose is a FE or FE knockoff.

I bought the rigid the other day, but I'll have to go to Costco and see. I found that the one near me in Mt. Laurel has a lot of tools and stuff.
Thanks for the heads up. At $13 that's not bad.
Costco has a satisfaction guarantee, so if EVER that hose fails, keep the receipt and they'll refund you the money.JT
That's what I heard. Not a bad deal for the price.

At $13 that's not bad. @@@You have to shake them out to remove the kinks at rollout, but they are really light. We started this roofing project with standard air hose. When you have to lift about 25' of the stuff all day, it gets old. The eel and eel-like hoses are really light.Let me also add a plug for the Milwaukee coil roofing nailer. Wish they did a coil framer. The ToolBear

I was amazed at how light the rigid hose is. Definitely more flexible than the 2 hoses I currently have. I'll have to go buy one of those hose reels and put the old ones on it for work in the shop. Thanks again for the advice.
I was amazed at how light the rigid hose is.@@@They make some nice stuff. Their extension cords are delightful - very supple, good feature set. My colleague has one of their 10g cords. I have cord envy. My 10g you can stand in the corner until the sun hits it for a while. The ToolBear

tool shop. Buy them at Menards up here in Minnesota 100' $30. You can get the quick fix fittings through acme tools for like $5 each make 2-3 hoses out of it. Nice and light. Easy to work with.
As a follow up, thank you to all that suggested the Rigid air hose. Finally got to use it this weekend to put the base board up for the trim job.
Loved it. Very flexible and didn't kink at all
Thanks again.
