Are there any pneumatic nailers that can be used on fiber-cement siding and comp roofing? ie. being able to handle different type of nail vs. just nail length. I’ve never worked with fiber-cement siding but I’ve heard one person say he used 2″ galv. roofing nails. For that matter, can pneumatic nailers be used on fiber-cement siding easily. ie. consistant depth setting?

A pretty good general discussion of attaching Hardi products is at:
http://www.inspectionconcepts.com/hardiplank.htm
I talked with the Hardi reps at the recent JLC Live in Portland and they had a listing of a number of fasteners that they said were compatible with Hardi stuff. I was surprised to learn they even gave a listing for nails to be used with an nail gun for Hardi panels/siding on light gauge steel studs. They said the heavier the gauge of the stud, the better. They said their list was on the Hardi website, but I haven't dug it up yet.
Thanks for info..........have a great new year!
I use the Bostich Ridgerunner and 1 3/4" nails for the gun and 2" galv roofing nails for anything nailed by hand. This is all blind nailed. The Bostich has a good reputation among roofers and it's nice and light.

I saw on one of your recent posts that you have used a Bostitch roofing nailer to attach Fiber Cement siding.
I use an RN45 for comp shingles but have my first FC job coming up.
What nails did you use in your Bostitch for the FC? I can't seem to find any siding nails/ring shanks that will fit my gun - considering buying the Bostich 80 for the siding but don't want to spend the $$ if I don't have to....
I usually use the 1 3/4" smooth shank Bostitch nails for roofing jobs.
any help would be good.

We use 1 3/4" roofing nails in the Bostich. We currently are busy framing and we have "professional" siders (read, they do it all the time :-)) and they are using the Bostich siding gun. Its similar to a gun designed for fencing. They are using 7d or 8d dipped coil nails. I would do that if I could, but since we have our roofing guns that is what we use.
I hope it goes well for you. If you are thinking of buying a new roofing gun, check out the Max gun. It is pretty sweet. I saw it at the International Builders Show in Vegas in January and it almost made me want to become a roofer just for the cool gun :-) http://www.maxusacorp.com
