A tool repair shop told me to only put one drop of oil in a nailer per day. Says most of the problems he sees are from over-oiling. I just bought a framing nailer for some remodeling work and don’t want to wreck it. Can someone who uses a nailer daily enlighten me on 1 drop vs. 6? I use my compressor for painting and don’t want to add an oil injector.
Thanks in advance

I've never heard of damage from "over oiling". I HAVE heard that lubes like wd-40 will eat up the o-rings, so I avoid that in the nipple, but I still use it in the magazine sometimes to keep the nails sliding easy. I think a couple drops a day is enough, tho, and truth be told, I've got a couple Hitachi nr83's that sometimes get oiled every other or third day when I'm using them daily. Both guns rebuilt once, but not used 40 hrs a week anymore.
I've never been a big fan of the self oilers, for the reason, similar to why you don't want to, that while the compressor will put a little oil into hoses and whatnot, an oiler will make them un-usable for painting. I actually would suggest seperate hoses for painting anyway, with an oil separator.

I have never heatrd of a Shop complaining. When I was framing we used an automatic oiler that we set on cold days wide open. We also did the maintenence on ur own guns. Yes the guns get oily inside, but so what, rag wipes them clean. I would rather have too much oil rather than not enough, of course I always hated to replace the o rings.
Thanks, guys. I was asking about a self-oiler when the shop told me to just put one drop of oil in the tool. I wasn't sure if he was telling the truth or just trying to create some repair business :-)

When I was using my guns all day, my routine was to oil them at the end of the day.
2-3 drops, then fire a nail or two to spread it around.
Now the gun isn't sitting dry all night and in the morning I can just pick it up and go to work...buic
Damage from over-oiling? Yeah maybe if you FILL it!
I think this is one of the cases of idiot-proofing gone awry. Use more than 1 drop, and less then half the bottle. :)
Personally I use 2-3drops/day in nailers, 5-6 in rotary tools, and I adjust for use.
