I am going to start my first cedar shingle siding job and I have been looking at different siding nailers to speed the process up. Don’t want to use staples. Checked out the Hitachi NV75AG siding nailer and found Maze no-split stainless steel ringshank .091 coil siding nails. Would using these nails to fasten cedar shingles be folly? Would they split the shingle or lead to splits in the future? I would appreciate any input.

I did this with the Hitachi and SS nails, though not the Mazes you refer to. They have the best reputation. My splitting problems were limited to overdriving when trying to bend the shingle for the flare. So far, so good, but I am by no means a shingling expert.

Thanks for the info, the house looks great.
we sidewall with cedar shingles a lot.. we have 3 Bostich coil nailers.. cn63, cn64, & cn66..
the hitachi is a good gun too.. we typically use a 4d SS ( ring shank) bostich for WC & a 5d SS ( ring shank ) for RC..
the cn 66 has the dial-a-nose depth.. the older guns require a wrench..
make sure your gun has a very easy depth adjustment so you won't overdrive or underdrive
Appreciate the feedback.
