A customer today ask me to install a pop up range vent. It’s a filtered type of down draft hood.
I have never installed one but it doesn’t look to bad. Does anybody have a standard rough price? How about any tips on installing one of these? Thanks Jeremy

I'll help...........you need to know where it is going to vent to. Down through the floor and out through a rim joist.
Factors to consider are countertop material, electrical supply, distance and accesibility to area benaeth floor where duct will run, others I may have missed including brand and ease of install in general.
I'd figure a good two days by the time you meet to look/talk/scratch your head and make all the runs to pick up duct work and.................maybe less, but you want to make money right?

Thanks.
I know it's a carbon filter. She said it doesn't vent to the out side. She had me close up 3 vents outside and doesn't want any holes outside. Electric is easy. There is access to the basement under the cabinet. I'll install a surface mount box.
The counter is made of formica so it's easy cutting.

Never heard of such a thing.
Down draft usually goes down through the cabinet either into a joist bay or below them and then to the exterior.
Can't imagine a non venting pop up down draft working very well. Many of the venting one do not suck very well.
Sounds like a HD sale.[email protected]

Couple of things.
They are ugly (or at least the ones I installed ) from the back side when up in operating position. So I ended up having to build a high counter back to hide the stupid thing when operating to please the HO.
The ones I installed took a deeper than normal cabinet to accomodate them and like Eric said downdrafted then vented out thru a rim joist.
Unfinished basement helps a lot,.
If it is a "recycler" with no vent to the outside HO may as well just open a window because that will be more effective and save money .
