Has anyone tried to remove the porcelain from an old tub. I’m getting ready to redo the bathroom in our old farmhouse (Bathroom was redone horribly in the ’50s) and we dug the old pedistal tub out of the shed and want to reuse it. I’m going to have it powder coated, but need to remove the porcelain. Any suggestions will be helpful.

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

There isn't a chemical or thermal way of doing it. It would have to be done mechanically. Sandblasting comes to mind, with a grit that is harder than silica, such as silicon carbide.
Sandbasting

Thanks Wayne. I'm taking an old porcelain sink to the blasters the end of the week to experiment with. I tried 40 grit diskcs on an orbital ... what an exercise in frustration. I've heard that the tub can be heated, but the chance that there is moisture behind the porcelain tends to make things go bang, so no one wants to do it anymore.
Thanks guys, you've echoed my feelings and if we cant get it off with blasting, at least it will give it some tooth to be epoxyed.
Hate to be a nay sayer, but...
The porcelain isn't coming off.
ditto the sandblasting...
defer that job to a good shop...
