I have finally completed my screened in porch, but cannot locate one item
that will remind me of the ones I slept in as a kid….I’ll bet that someone out there has seen these….I’m looking for the little circular metal tabs that have numbers on them used on old porches to match up screens with the porch openings….they were usually placed in the lower left corner of the screen and the associated side frame of the opening to assist the following spring with returning the screens to their rightful place….anyone have a lead on locating these?…I constantly check my local architectural salvage places, but none have come around…..thanks for any help you can give…

Stitch,
For this purpose, I use a rodex machine available at most office supply stores. The little hand-held plastic machine prints letters and numbers on to an adhesive-backed plastic tape. These machines are not very expensive (less than $10). The adhesive doesn't work very well on painted surfaces so you'll probably need to fasten the label with two tiny 1/2" nails. Also, if you don't have too many screens, you can label them "NE", etc. (north-east). That way, you don't have to label the porch, as well.
Another alternative would be to buy a set of letter and number punches and to make your own labels using some type of soft metal. These punches are availble through the Enco catalog or other machinery supply houses.
*I know exactly what you are looking for. I was looking for those numbers last year, posted about it here and called just about every resource I could find nation-wide. Came up empty. Sorry. SHG
*If you mean the little brass plates that look like "tool crib tags"; I get these from a store that supplies trophies. I used to be able to buy them from Snap-on Tools, but they never have them anymore (??). The trophy stores sell all sorts of different sizes of brass plates that attach with escutcheon pins - they'll even stamp/engrave the numbers on for you.
*Had the same problem a few years back and came up dry, so...I used small oval copper tags intended as plant markers. About 1" by 5/8ths. Bought off the shelf at a landscaping yard. Malleable enough to be "engraved" with a pen. Tacked them on with a couple of copper brads.Five years ago and they've held up well and look nice.
