Do you guys think this is a good deal?
Porta-nails 402P flooring nailer, brand new, from Amazon.com for $219. I am looking to put down a lot of hardwood in the near future and I think this might beat renting.
Thanks

you go by the name stallion, your 30? yeah great deal. i'm 50 ,every joint hurts,i'm spending the other 150 and letting the air drive the nails. how much is alot of hardwood?1500 sf or more and you better buy the air,no need of swinging that hard on a hammer. larry
hand me the chainsaw, i need to trim the casing just a hair.
The "stallion" is a reference to my high school nickname. I was a big fan of the Rocky movies.
I just bought a 1800 sf log ranch and I am planning on putting down 4 inch white oak in all but the kitchen and baths. Probably 1400 sf of wood. I am going to do a few rooms for my in-laws soon, too. I have used the PortaNails brand manual nailer before, while I was working as a carp, and I like how tight the floors are with it. I don't mind the hammer swinging.
I was just wondering if this is a good price for this model. It is far cheaper than I have seen anywhere else. The stores around here are looking for $400 plus and most only carry pneumatic nailers.
Thanks.
I picked up the Bosctich at Amazon for $359 a while back (air stapler) - it works like a champ and doesn't kill you using it.
You could buy it and use it and then sell it for $200-$280 easy.
Or, you could buy it from someone doing the above and then resell it for about what you paid for it.
Bigger resale market for the Bosticth I'd think.

Thanks for the input.
Amazon also has a Bostitch MFN-200 on sale. It is only 20 bucks more than the PortaNails. I think it will be easier to find nails for, and resell if I decide to.
I've got the airpowered stapler. It's the same one HomeDepot's around here rent out. They sell at HD for $479 - so folks on Craigslist/ebay will be happy to pay as much as $300 for a decent used one.I'd say spend the money for an air powered - they're easier and it'll have better resale if you ever decide to sell.I decided on the stapler cause it seems that there are nail guys and stapler guys and you'd be fine either way. Around here, the staples are easily gotten at HD or Lowes. The finish flooring foot is very handy if only to keep the stapler from tipping over. I've done a huge prefinished project with the finish foot and a huge one without it. It is not a necessity, but it's worth having.JT
