I’m planning a portable pitching “mound” (rectangular incline, really) for my son to use in the backyard. It will be 4′ wide, 9′ long, and ~10″ tall sloping down to 3 1/2 ” tall at the lip. Given that I want to keep it reasonably light, I’d like your input on the thickness of the plywood top, and the spacing of the stringers.
If weight wasn’t an issue, I’d use four 2″x10″stringers, 16″ o.c., running the 9′ length, and 1/2″ or more plywood. However, I’m wondering if I can get by with either 24″ o.c. and/or thinner plywood. What do you guys think is reasonable. Some deflection is OK, but I don’t want it to feel like a trampoline. I should point out that the 2″x10″ stringers will be in contact with the ground the full length, so deflection of the stringer is not an issue, just the deflection of the plywood between stringers.
I don’t plan to regularly leave the mound outside when not in use, but chances are that it will get rained on a time or two. What ratings should I look for on the plywood (or should I use something other than true plywood). I’m trying to keep it inexpensive, but don’t want it to instantly turn to mush, either.
Thanks.

i'd frame the outside with pt 2x10...but the rafters i'd frame across with 2x4 spanning the 4' at 16" on center.... then i'd use 1/2" Adventech for the plywood
