Hello
I was wondering if anyone has used a Porter Cable CF2400 2hp 4 gal.
compressor.
Was just reviewed in the last FHB. Are they really quieter?
Any other comments? Found a pretty good deal on them, & was thinking of picking one up.
Thanks,
Mike

If it's quieter than that little red pancake that PC makes, that ain't too hard to do, and will still be louder than most other brands.
Why the big deal about the noise? I don't have a power tool that doesn't make a lot of noise.

*A friend bought that unit a year or so ago. It produces lots of air, didn't seem much quieter than my old Emglo, and must weigh 80 pounds - a real backbreaker. Also is less compact. I'm sticking with the Emglo.Bill
*Hey Ed,That's a good sign. Not being bothered by noise indicates you're not becoming an old fart yet.
*Thanks for the info. I do have one of the little pancake compressors, which is obnoxiously loud. That is the reason for the noise question. Last spring, I was doing a remodel, and forgot to shut it off when I went home for the night. Much to the homeowners surprise, it decided to come on at 2 am.Boy did I hear about it the next morning!Mike
*Whew!!!!!!I thought that after all these years I was going deaf. I've got tinitus in my right ear. Got it from an old Delta radial arm saw that I had set up in a kitchen 18 years ago. We didn't use carbide back then, and man those steel blades could sing. I just left it running all day.........making drawer parts.........and after about 10 hours of that, I went home with my ears ringing. My right ear never did stop ringing. The doctor said that I killed some nerves in my inner ear. I still don't understand that if they're dead, why do they make noise all the time? I thought I'd go nuts the first few days, but I did get used to it, and hardly notice it anymore. I do have to sleep with a fan going just to block the noise.I keep a full box of ear plugs at the shop, and encourage people to use them.Hey, it's a noisey business.......but what I did.......subjecting myself to a steady prolonged exposure was stupid.Ed. *Huh?
*Frank,LOLOLOL!Ed.
*oh boy...been there, done that, heard it all the next morning too. I forgot all about that until ya reminded me.I have never left one on and plugged in since then, I'll tell ya. When mine kicked on, it scared the dog that was asleep in the utility room (where the compressor was). The dog freaked out, tore through the room looking for a way out, and caused a real mess. Tore up laundry boxes, fabric softener, etc... I cleaned on that room for a whole day to get the mess cleaned up, all the while the homeowner was ripping me a new orifice. I have never apologized so much in my life.near the ditch...James "Loving Life" DuHamel
*>Just bought the Porter Cable Framing kit from Tool Crib. The CF2400 compressor is quiet and recharges in under fifteen seconds. I'm very impressed with this compressor for the price.
*I don't know about the sausage compressor but I can almost guarantee that the pancake is made by devilbiss for PC. I have a 15 gal 2Hp craftsman compressor that has the devilbiss info stamped on the tank (although in an obscure location) and when I got my PC pancake it had the EXACT same literature in it, same orange colored paper, same date and file number in the lower corner of the page exact same instructions. too much the same to be coincidence.
*And I've got a little Hitachi that is identical to a Bostich I saw at one of the box stores.
*Ed., I didn't see this back in August. My ears have been screaming for almost 30 years. Every few years I go to the oto doctor to see if any new miracles: none yet. Just have to grin and bear it and try to not let the house get too quiet.
*I,too, have the hearing problem. Would you guys type louder?don
*Ed,The deal with the dead nerves making a ringing noise is like the phantom pain people feel when they get a finger or a leg cut off. The nerve remembers. The PC is a queiter one now. One of my guys got one that had a bad part and was noisy and didn't always start on command. He exchanged it and the replacement was quieter than any unit we've had on site. It'll do a good job of running two frame guns or two roofing guns in cold weather too.
