Hey folks…
I have a dearly beloved Porter Cable LaserLoc saw that seems to be ailing. At times it seems to bog down even when cutting stock it used to fly through but in addition the electric brake doesn’t seem to work anymore. It just freewheels down to a stop. Any thoughts where to start looking? The brushes seem OK but I may try a new set just to be sure, although I can’t see that this would affect the braking unless the brake applies a current to the motor? Anyway… thanks for any input!

PaulB,
Change the brushes and clean the commutator. Worked for me.

Hmmm, I should know this but... what's the best way to clean the commutator? And thanks for the suggestion!
Electrical contact spray, not WD40 cuz it will explode if the saw is running. I know this from experience. Pooof!

Just spray it into the brush openings? gulp...
Electrical contact cleaner and plastic tooth picks... Gotta get rid of the crud between the commutator bars..
Pull the motor end cap...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming.... WOW!!! What a Ride!

Thanks for the advice guys, it's on my weekend to do list...
For the last 4 years...since I got my compressor...I routinely blow out my power tools with the air attachment...PC circ saw, PC sawsall, Delta Power Mitre, Makita table saw.....a blast of air into the vent while triggering the tool a couple of times..around the trigger switch or where ever it looks like it will help clean up a bit.
Don't know if it does any good but makes me feel better...no tool problems yet...knock, knock
