I had a friend ask me if I had ever seen a power door frame saw. He said it would be used to cut the door jamb away, as you would when installing a new floor(be hardwood, ceramic or laminated). I haven’t but knew where I could find out about one if it existed.

Yes, they exist. I believe the term is a jamb saw.

Hello Mark. The jamb saw we use is made by Crain, I believe. Basically its a circular turned on end, so the motor axis is vertical, & fitted with a special base over where the blade guard would normally be. Uses special blades that dont require an outside arbor nut, so the blade can cut right up against the floor. Just adjust the base to the thickness that you want to remove from the jamb, casing or whatever, then plunge the blade into the wood. Seems like it was spendy, maybe 300 bucks or so.

You can also find them at most rental shops if you're looking at a small job.
