Anyone here have experience with Pozzi or Kolbe/Kolbe windows? We are looking at some custom all wood double hungs with true divided lites, weight and chain sash. I am trying to decide if these manufacturers are a better choice than true custom-only window makers.

Working on a job in NW Lower Michigan (Traverse City area) a few years back I ran into a local builder there that only used Kolbe/Kolbe. He liked them, I think they may have been manufactured close by, they were nice windows. Anyway, I'd agree. They were nice looking, no glaring details of poor quality, these particular units I think were clear pine interior with aluminum clad exterior, double-glazed/insulated glass. The ones on the job I was on were all double hungs. The house belongs to a friend of mine, I've been back summers and winters over the past 2 or so years, and they are working fine. If the price is right, I'd give 'em a try.

pino... my impression of Pozzi is that i didn't want to use them.. i didn't like thier distribution system...
i started using Kolbe & Kolbe when my millwork company, Horner Millwork picked them up... Horner is pretty savy.. and a lot of their customers are coastal NewEngland.. including Nantucket & Martha's Vineyard..
bottom line .. don't know much about Pozzi.. but i used a custom K&K on an old victorian summer before last.... i thought the units were great... here's apic of teh exterior & interior.... this i s a slider to duplicate the original porch windows from 1890..

Thanks for the input and the pics.
Unfortunately, everyone around here goes wth Marvin at the top end, so not to many folks to gather opinions from. As a homeowner/renovator it can be real difficult to get first hand knowledge.
For me Breaktime is a god send.
thanks again.
pino... marvin..... vs. ... Kolbe & Kolbe... hands down. K&K..

my experiences K&K finest tdlights I've used - great profiles, muntin sizing, fantastic colors on their miracle coats and inspirational photos in their literature
Marvin fine product - 2 out of three times they have screwed up the order royally - like grids instead of tdls - how do they stay in business?
Pozzi last used them 10 yrs ago on some big window walls facing north and east - have held up well & client loves em
was just entertaining the notion of our man Blodget making me some doublehungs I need now but didn't fit into his schedule so Pozzi was one of those I contacted ( these were single lite sashes - not tdl ) and they blew everyone out of the water on pricing and I only imagine they would be equal or better in quality
I think there was only a 5/8" run of vinyl up each jamb on the double hungs
I tend to be amazed at fine window pricing as it is just passing me by - but the Pozzi standard sizing was almost shockingly low - hope your distribution is better than Mike's - here we're just a ways north of their plant
If it's something you are going to consider be sure to get their specs on standard sizing before putting up those walls salud J
