We’re installing a rough-surfaced (though glazed) wall tile with a slate-like accent strip that is also rough-surfaced (and unglazed). Pre-sealing the tile would appear to be appropriate to minimize grout cleanup problems.
My question: Should we use regular tile sealer (keeping it off of the tile edges) or, what I see at HD, a purpose-made pre-grout sealer (though this sounds from the instructions to be for floor tile)?

On an unglazed white tile, I used something called 511 Impregnator -- picked it up at my tile distributor at their recommendation. It worked pretty good, but I still had to use some elbow grease cleaning up the black grout film off the face of the tile. Check with your tile distributor over HD. They know what works and have the feedback from people like yourself who use it.
I'm POed with our distributor in that they didn't suggest a pre-grout sealer.
